    Default The Bookman Clan Loyalties

so i just got through reading the official translations volumes 8-14 (amazon had a sale) and there was one translation that differed from the scanlations (well, there are plenty) that really struck me as important.

in chapter 101, david comments about lavi looking for the key with his bookman's abilities. once he realized that lavi is of the bookman clan he says, in the scanlation, "it's no wonder that he's here right now."

but in the official translation, he says, "so they're on your side now, huh?"

this is kind of a BIG utterance, don't you think?! it was so unclear in the scanlation that i just pretty much blew by it (i'm going to choke that translator - he's losing credibility by the minute). but if it is indeed what it says in the official release, that's a big, fat implication that the bookmam clan might have at one point sided with the noah (!!!). it would make sense what with the way old panda flop sweats when talking about the 14th and is so secretive about the other side of the war.

does someone have chapter 101 RAW?! i want to read it for myself, geez.

That is big... but what's odd is that they never mentioned that in the anime and they usually got things right in the anime if they weren't filler episodes.

Unfortunately I don't have the raw but search online? It should be some where.

I'm wondering too about Oldman Panda's secrets. He also said to Lavi that if Lavi have a signs of evolving his innocence into Crystal Type they will leave the Order immediately. Bookmen are very intriguing character in the series.

For some reason I had the impression that the Bookmen had been on the Noah side before, but I'm not sure where I got that impression. I think it might have been an offhand comment by one of the other Noah although I don't remember if it was a more recent chapter or an earlier one. (Maybe I read a different translation that did have something like that translated properly.) That or my brain just made it up because of the way Bookman acts and always telling Lavi to basically not get attached.

I think Bookman/Bookmen's loyalty is to truth and history on the surface. I do think there is more to it than that and that there is something more underneath--although this could just be that the individual Bookman is not totally unbiased. Bookman obviously cares what happens to Lavi and Lavi cares for his friends. I think they have to put duty before personal feelings, but that they still have those feelings and perhaps feel/act upon related personal loyalties so long as it does not interfere with the recording and progression of what is going on around them.

It does make me wonder what exactly they know and what will happen to Lavi especially.
