D.Gray-Man Manga Chapter 209 Discussion

New chapter is out today, woohoo! Though it's very short, only 17 pages or so.

It's an interesting turn of events, that's for sure. Some good character development for Kanda.

We haven't found the identity of the man in the alley, though I'd bet it's Allen. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait for December 5th before another chapter!

i don't know what hoshino has been doing, but cranking out a measly 15 pages for a monthly publication is seriously lacking. AND it's mostly about johnny...again. sigh.

Your response in the other thread is pretty harsh.

You're allowed to be dissatisfied, of course, and we all love DGM and want lots of it, but I don't think the short chapter and it mostly being about Johnny is anything to be upset/down over. Certainly not worth feeling that she's "unproductive" and should turn it over to someone else due to her health!

(And before there's confusion, I'm not angry or being rude, haha.)

*sigh* it is kinda short though.. but i enjoyed Kanda this chapter

.. he really is growing a sense of humor XD

not sure how long you've been reading this manga but i'd started it several years ago and seen it go from weekly to monthly and the overall quality of it get decreasingly worse with only small moments of redemption. but i'm in it for the long haul, no turning back now no matter how bad it gets or where it goes. it's not that it was so short that i'm dissatisfied right now, it's that it's MONTHLY and so short and it's obvious to me that hoshino is pushing the plot out. pushing the plot out is fair for her to do since it's her baby but, in this industry, putting out a monthly publication means that the chapters are longer...should range about 35-50 pages. she barely hits that each month and this isn't the first time she's busted out something under 20 pages.

i certainly understand when chapters fall behind or are short when she's ill, but she's not; not right now. and she has a staff to help her and it's still this way. sadly, this isn't the first time, nor am i the only one who's called for her to turn the actual drawing fully over to her staff or another mangaka. she is obviously unable to churn out quantity and quality at the same time, at least not often. i think she should still be in charge of the story and the writing since this is her story to tell, but i wouldn't mind if she handed the actual rendering over to someone else who could carry on the work similar to hers without falling behind as she has.

at this rate, DGM is heading the way of Berserk (where the work is inconsistent) and Claymore (where we don't see or hear about the major characters(s) for a long time and there's just filler.

don't get me wrong....i'm not resorting to such things suggestions because i'm raw over this one incident. it's actually because it's not the first time, not by a long shot, nor will it be the last. there are other mangas where i've certainly been unhappy about where the story's going but at least they're doing their jobs. just my 2 cents.

Your points make sense, I understand you better now. DGM could be more than it has been, no doubt, and it sucks the anime didn't fair so well. But I guess we'll see what happens with the manga in the future.

i was a bit disappointed with this months

it was just too short! usually weekly manga is about 15 pages long, in fact its usually about 19 pages long. i hope she produces more 30+ page chapters in the future or have it weekly

i miss Allen

I too was disappointed with how short this chapter was. But I never thought Kanda would join Johnny. It seems kind of strange that Lenalee isn't doing anything, but maybe she doesn't want to risk being rejected by the order. I hope that next chapter will have Allen or Lavi in it. I miss them.
