Is it possible that the Earl doesn't even plan to totally destroy humankind ? So sorry to throw a non-exciting theory here but I believe it to be possible. I'm thinking in terms of the Earl's point of view here. If let's say I believed that the very existence of humankind or exorcisms was wrong then I sure naturally I would want to erase them from the face of the earth. But if I failed and had gotten beaten by the exorcists and being a Noah had become reborn, wouldn't fighting with the same aim be pointless? Perhaps he dirsn't have the aim of perishing humankind or exorcist s this time but something even worse ? And if you're asking why the earl has made the Akuma in the first place and why they target human beings it could perhaps be killing 2 birds with one stone when he is getting rid of humans and planning something else ahead of time??sorry this is just a random theory and probably won't be true though

If my memory is correct, The Earl did say something that the Order didn't find out the Akuma's true reason.

As for the whole Noah reborn thing, I always though of it as cycle that will come to end and start over again. It might mean that the Earl will never be defeated and I also think that Neah might plan on taking that position, he did say that the Earl is a mad puppet and he wants to become the new Millenium Earl. If you can't destroy the cycle might as well adjust it so it would be more sutible for everyone living in it.
