Maybe as a reflection of the power of the 14th as well as Allen's strengthened resolve. The 14th may have powers similar to the Earl himself.

Maybe the 14th somehow adapted Earl's powers and refined them....

Or the 14th was the Earl's protege, but eventually broke away from the Earl and the Noahs... So leading to the point...

Yes, Earl's a magician. A very ancient magician. I guess the 14th may have grew to detest his master's way over time and decided to go against him.
